Sales Manager, Southampton, Ergonomic Office Equipment, upto £25,000 basic

The Purpose of the Sales Manager:

To manage a Sales Team, selling the Company’s products through a telesales process, directly to organisations in the required sectors for example:

a) Local and National Government
b) Public-sector (including education and medical)
c) Businesses
d) Charities


Responsibilities of the Sales Manager:

1) Managing sales: Proposing, agreeing, and meeting monthly, quarterly and annual sales targets for the Department. (ie by %margin; £value; and where needed, by product mix, and sector). This requires that:

a) a clear and visible sales process is maintained, which manages the process and provides forecasts and performance metrics
b) sales orders are processed and progressed
c) pricing and margins are optimised
d) new product opportunities are identified and acted upon
e) key customers are managed personally

2) Managing the Team: Set targets for your Team to achieve the above. This requires that you:

a) recruit, train, motivate, and retain your Team
b) allocate duties, responsibilities, targets, and rewards
c) supervise and monitor performance
d) ensure each Team member is effective and achieving (or if in training will achieve) their required targets.
e) develop your Team members according to their abilities and the company’s needs

3) Managing the function:

a) controlling department costs – wages, bonuses, and expenses
b) maintaining good and accurate sales records, and databases
c) driving the sales promotional plan
d) liaising with peer group sales managers including trade, overseas and web sales managers: also with marketing, logistics and accounting teams.
e) reporting regularly on activities, opportunities, problems, and metrics

4) Other duties as directed or appropriate, including:

a) liaising with key suppliers
b) monitoring customers and competitors
c) making a general contribution to the sales growth of the Company
d) contributing to company sales strategies and plans
e) contributing to the management of the company’s processes.

The Ideal Sales Manager will have the following:

a) An interest and ability in all aspects of sales and selling businesses
b) Excellent team-building and management skills – getting results through people
c) Very good financial and commercial awareness, also business
d) Value relationships, passion and commitment
e) Ability and experience in working with computers. Also, (as a minimum) have good knowledge on Outlook, Word, Excel and ACT
f) Interest in technology, computers, and the requirements of people with special needs of all age


Education/ Experience/ Outlook:

Essential
• Sales experience in similar roles with other Companies (2+ years)
• Facility with good business English and simple business, maths
• A-levels or equivalent
• Good ability with computers
• Organised - good planner (“fail to plan = plan to fail”)
• Local to Southampton
• Confident ‘can-do’ attitude, conscientious approach to work responsibilities.
• Attitude, and passion and commitment

Desirable
• Has managed a team
• Driver, with own car
• GNVQ / HND /Degree or equivalent
